WATERCOLORS
Indian Miniature painting is a centuries-old tradition from Northern India. I studied this technique for a year from Charlotte Cain, Professor of Art at M.U.M., who studied with Bannu, Master Painter from Jaipur. This technique involves painting very fine lines and very subtle gradations with a small squirrel's hair brush. There are many motifs that are used including lotuses, leaves, waves, and kolams.

Kolams are the traditional designs that Indian women draw on the threshold of their home to welcome guests and honor their religious tradition. Finding that they are very peaceful to paint as well as look at, I try to include one in each of my paintings. I have taken this form of painting and developed my own style of this time honored tradition.
