on Painting" by John Robichaux
This book is a collection of the author's notes from Hensche's
lectures during his classes at his Cape School of Art in Provincetown,
MA. The notes are mostly from 1988, but the book also includes
a short bio of Hensche and several illustrations of his work. The notes
give a lot of insight into Hensche's thinking and methods.

by Mrs. Charles Hawthorne
This is a collection of students' notes from Charles Hawthorne's
classes. Hawthorne was Hensche's teacher and the prodigy of
William Merrit Chase. The notes are vaulable information that goes
along with the methods of this Impressionist technique.

"Painting the Impressionist Landscape"
by Lois Griffel
This is a workshop in a book for practicing Hensche's methods.
Griffel clearly outlines the block study method Hensche taught
and has adapted it to her own teaching method. The illustrations
are effective in showing what to do and the plates of Griffel's
paintings are beautiful and inspiring.

"Capturing Radiant Color in Oils" by
Susan Sarbuck
Sarbuck's book is another approach to the
same Hensche method taught in his school. Her paintings really do capture
radiant color and she gives many different examples of the block study
method that Hensche taught.

"The Art of Seeing and Painting" by Henry Hensche
This is the only book Hensche wrote and it is out of print. But if
you find a copy you will have a book containing the essence of
all that he taught. It is in the same conversational format in
which he delivered all of his lectures and covers all subjects
relevant or otherwise to his teaching method and technique. |
